Managing Ads on your site...

Ad Manager is an optional tool available for Aliquant Content Management System. This component allows you to add, edit and manage advertising units on your website. Ad units can be placed in up to five locations on your site. These are:

  1. At the top of your home page.
  2. At the top of all secondary pages
  3. At the bottom of ALL pages
  4. At the bottom of the left navigation bar (if you are using the left navigation bar)
  5. At the bottom of the right navigation bar (if you are using the right navigation bar)

How the ad system works... Each location can be specified individually when you set up a new online advertisement. If there is only one ad for a specific location (top of the home page for example) that one ad will show for all users visiting the site. If there is more than one ad associated with a specific location the ads are displayed based on a random selection.

Your first step in setting up a new ad for your site is to create a new advertiser record. From the administration section choose Ad Manager / Manage Advertisers. The resulting page will list all advertiser records in your site.

Add New Advertiser... From the advertiser list page choose Add New Advertiser link. The Business Name is the ONLY required field.

Business Name: This is the only REQUIRED field and is intended for your use only.
Contact Name: Name of the advertising contact.
Address/City/State/Zip: Billing address of the advertiser.
Contact Email: Email address for the billing contact.
Contact Phone: Phone number for the billing contact.

Once you have an advertiser you can add one or more ads. From the administration section choose Ad Manager / Manage Ads. The resulting page lists all ads entered in your system. Please remember that each ad has a Start Date and an End Date. The ad only displays within that date range. The list shows the start date and end date for each ad.

Add New Site Ad... From this page choose Add New Site Ad

New Ad: ALL FIELDS ARE REQUIRED: This page allows you to add (edit) an ad listing. Please NOTE...The ad manager will work with .gif and .jpg ad images only. To add a Flash or other type of ad, use the User Navigation Files to add the ad to a navigation bar.
Ad Name: This is used internally only to help you locate specific ads.
Ad Location: There are five ad locations. Please note: If you are not using the right and/or left navigation bar you should not chose those as a location.
Home page top... shows at the top of the opening page. 
All pages bottom... shows at the bottom of ALL content pages including the home page. 
Content Top... shows at the top of ALL content pages EXCEPT the home page. 
Right navigation bar bottom... shows at the bottom of the right navigation bar. 
Left navigation bar bottom... shows at the bottom of the left navigation bar.
Owner: The dropdown lists all Advertisers in your database.
Start Date: The date the ad will start showing on your website.
End Date: The date the ad will stop showing on your website.
URL of Ad Image: Fully qualified URL of the web location of the ad image to be displayed.
Link URL: Fully qualified URL of the web page the ad will be linked to. By default, all ads open the site in a new window.

Please Note: The image files (.jpg or .gif) used cannot be any wider than the width you set for the section where the ad will be displayed. For example, if the ad location is the Left Navigation Bar and the width of the Navigation Bar is set to 150 pixels... the image cannot be wider than 150 pixels.

Ad Report... From the administration section choose Ad Manager / Ad Report. The resulting page shows the number of times EACH ad has been shown on a page of your site and the total number of times EACH ad has been clicked on within the date range listed at the top of the report.

This report should be run on a regular basis... monthly, quarterly, etc. On the first day of the (month, quarter, etc) visit this page and print the report. After the report has finished printing you can reset the Impressions and Clicks to ZERO by choosing the Reset the Report Totals to Zero link at the top of the page. When this link is clicked the totals are reset to zero and the database is updated to the current date. The next time you run the report the Report Range - Last Report Update date will reflect this date.

Please be aware that if you delete an advertiser or ad it will NOT show in this report after deletion.
